Quick Guide To Sending and Receiving your E-mail:
- Open Outlook Express by double clicking on the icon on your desktop or click on Start/Programs/Internet Explorer/Outlook Express.
- Click on the Compose Message icon on the top left of the window.
- The New Message Window window appears on screen.
In order to send the message successfully you will need to fill in the following pieces of information:
To: Type the email address of the person you are sending the message to. The address must be typed in correctly or the message will not reach them. A typical address will look something like this: info@supportunlimited.net.
Cc: Carbon copy recipients will receive a copy of the message you are sending. Enter their addresses in this field.
Bcc: Blind carbon copy recipients will also receive a copy of the message but their names will not appear in the message header so they can remain anonymous.
Subject: The title of your message - the first part that the recipient will see on their screen.
Message: Type your message.
- When you've finished, click on the Send button (above the 'To' button). Your message will be transferred to your Outbox (listed in the folders section on the left), and is ready for delivery. To send your message out to the Internet to be delivered, click on 'Send/Recv' at the top of the screen.
- If you are not connected to the Internet at this point, your computer should ask you if you want to connect. You must be connected to actually SEND and RECEIVE emails, although you can be offline (not connected) when you're writing them.
- To collect your messages simply open Outlook Express and click on the Send and Receive button at the top of the window. This will automatically connect you to the Internet and will download any messages that are waiting for you on our server. At the same time any messages in your Outbox will also be sent.
To Add an E-mail Contact to Your Outlook Address Book:
- Click on the title Contacts at the bottom section
of the column to the left of the screen. A little sub-menu will
appear entitled 'New Contact' click on this. Alternatively, you can click on the File menu and select New then Contact.
- A New Contact window will appear, which is full of information fields where you can
keep all your important information about your contact. Enter your contact's details. The important information to add at this stage
are First and Last Names and Email Address (Spelling is important). You can always
add more details later. In the Display section, select
the way you would like your contact name (or nickname) to be displayed.
Click on OK when you're done. You must use a New Contact window for each contact you wish to create.
- You should see your contact listed in the Contacts section
to the left of your screen. To edit or change this contact information,
simply double-click on their name and the window with their details
will appear.
To Attach Files in Outlook Express:
If you want to attach a file to the email message you are sending, simply follow these instructions:
- Click on the paper clip icon at the top of the window
and an Insert File window will appear.
- Select the file from your hard disk that you wish to
add as an attachment. The name of the file will appear in the File
name box. Click on the Attach button.
- The attached file will appear as an icon at the bottom of your
message. To open the attachment they simply double click
on the icon.
- To send the message click on the Send button. If you are not
connected to the Internet your message will go to your Outbox. The
message will not be sent until you connect to the Internet
and click on the Send and Receive icon at the top of the Outlook
